Madonna in the 80's was a pop teeny bopper
turned bad girl. You can see this trend of development in artist
like Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears in the late 90's.
In the early to mid-80's, Madonna's style had a more subtle sexy appeal compared
to her very controversial, sexual, taboo pushing image she portrayed
in the late 80's and 90's.
List for Madonna (early-mid) 80's style:
You can see her style in full force in a movie called "Desperately Seeking Susan". You'll see her chewing gum with a worldly, crass New York swagger. She wore
her trademark lace gloves, girly bandana partially hidden in
her teased, puddle hair.
She always seems to make her tacky rubber bracelets and huge Catholic cross work.
When you "cool" was
set to 10, she was in her dark Ray Bans with hair pulled back
and full of the latest ozone destroyer. She'd wear deliciously
slutty lace tops underneath a chic dressy jacket.
Get Into the Groove - Desperately Seeking
Suzan
In her 80's Lucky Star video, Madonna is wearing her trademark head gear (this
time a big black bow). She is wearing fingerless laced gloves
and sleeveless net top of a black tank top. At first I thought
she was wearing black high tops but actually she is wearing ballet
shoes and some type of thick socks.
Madonna in the Late 80's was very different. By 86' Madonna was an Icon, a household
name. She donned her cone bras and bleach blonde hair. She
was about to push her image to a whole new level. Her controversy
won't hit it peek until the 90's.
In Open Your Heart she is at a peep show dancing for customers and a little boy
just happens to see the show.
In Express Yourself she is pushing the limits of what is considered sexually
acceptible in the United States.
In Like Prayer she goes beyond what many consider acceptible... she is sensually
kissing black Jesus (LOL).
This video is a work of art. What is incredible about Madonna in the 80's is
that she was fearless in breaking people's comfortable little
realities. That is what true art is all about.
