Prince, half time ‘07, and VMAs 06

August 31, 2006

According to Sports by Brooks, Prince will play during the Half Time show:

I watch the VMA’s tonight. I was cool. One of my favorite entertainers, Jack Black, hosted. The performances by Beyonce, Justine and Dance Panic! at the Disco were among my personal favorites. But there was something missing.

prince purple rain

Prince! Where the hell was Black Sweat!

Prince is one Sexy Motha F***a! His whole image is… I don’t know.. Prince. It was ultra sexy to the point of bi-sexual. He always had the most beautiful woman I’d ever seen on his arm. And you could never tell whether they were married or engaged. The only thing you knew for sure was that Prince had sex with her. So why is it we can’t see Prince even sitting in the audience.
Mtv is so damn pop there were only like two people on stage older than 45! Montell Williams and Lou Reed (take a walk on the wild side).
One year they had Stevie Wonder perform with Alicia Keys and Lenny Kravitz and then there was Run DMC, Kid Rock and Aerosmythe and Modonna and Mrs. Federline. Those are the kind of things they should do more of. I guess that is why I don’t watch much MTV any more. Its all POP divas, and lame reality shows now. In the 80s, MTV was MUSIC Television. Now its a big ass media comany that out shines the music. Remember the debut of Thriller on MTV, YO! MTV Raps, even Head Banger’s Ball (I think they brought that back, though satan now owns it as the rock is completely demonic - MTV2).

I don’t even mess with MTV anymore it is way too “McDonald’s” for me. It used to be about rebellion and pushing the limits of what is exeptable, but now it is the status quo of pop commercialism. It caters to a crowd I feel that I am growing out of.
IMF - International Music Feed is pretty awesome. Not alot of retro 80s stuff but still great if your a music lover and like to hear new things. I guess to hear PRINCE and Purple Rain I’m gonna have to pop in the tape.  VH1 keeps it real.  MTV sucks.

Robots Wrestling!?

August 30, 2006

Why do they have to get all fancy? Give me “Rock ‘em, Sock ‘em Robots” and I am a happy 80s kid. All this electronics and prefabricated metal! How about good old fashion plastic.
In my day, all we did was try to knock the other robots head up by hitting a little plastic lever and we liked it.

80s hair dos

August 30, 2006

I had a few 80s hair dos and even a 70s one. Looking back on the 80s and comparing it to some of the other decades, I must say the 80s is as flamboyant and crazy as 18th century “big wig” era styles. Just think of the big hair rock bands, chemicalized hair dos such as the jheri curl.

I shamelessly present to you, “My 80s hair do timeline:”

AFRO (a big one) - late 70s

I was in Kindergarden and 1st grade with an Afro. I looked like young black Jesus. I went to an all white school surrounded by a lot of neo-nazi types so I don’t know why mom had me stand out even more with a ‘fro.

Jheri Curl - ‘85

If you were born sometime in the 80s then you probably don’t realize that Micheal Jackson is a black man. Some people say that he is “weird” or he looks like a “white woman” or that he “molests young boys”. I can say one word to erase all these ridiculous allegations: THRILLER. BECAUSE THIS IS THRILLER, THRILLER NIGHT. GOT TO BE STARTIN’ SOMTHIN’ GOT. BILLY JEAN IS NOT MY LOVER, JOMONE!! Now bow down to MJ!

The jehri curl was incredibly popular because Micheal Jackson made it popular (this was before Pepsi lit his highly flamable jheri curl on on fire.) Ice cube used to also keep it real with the jehri curl back in when the jehri curl was the most “gangsta” 80s hair do you could get.

Shag - ‘87

The shag is something I don’t see a lot of information about online. It is as if people are trying to pretend that it didn’t exist. The shag was like a black man’s mullet. I was short hair all over except for longer hair or a “shag” in the back on the neck. Nearly, every young black male I knew went through a “shag” phase.

S-Curl - ‘89

The S-Curl is actually more of a 90’s style. It is the coolest hair style in my oppinion. It is just like the jehri curl as it uses chemicals to get the arabic wet curly look, but it was for shorter hair and used less chemicals.

Gumby - 8?

This is by far the dumbest 80s hair do that I attempted to have. The gumby hair style let a young male fro in the shape of Gumby’s head, hence the name. Some guys could pull it off. Big Daddy Cane made it look good.

August 30, 2006

This is a great website that has put every show intro from our childhoods in one place. It’s a very fun look back to what seemed like simpler times..:)))))

This is one of the best 80s sites on the Internet. YES, even better than 80s rewind.

Rainbow innuendo episode

August 30, 2006

Rainbow is a popular British kids TV show from the 70s and 80s. This is the famous, hilarious innuendo episode which contrary to popular belief never actually aired on the BBC. It was specially commisioned for an office Christmas competition. Regardless, we can all still get our twangers out and play with our balls!
